Statement from Chair Liz Kannon

Jan. 24, 2025 — On Jan. 20, on a day dedicated to honoring the life and accomplishments of one of the most influential Civil Rights leaders in our nation’s history, the newly appointed Trump administration enacted a series of measures that serve as a stark reminder of its disjointed vision of the unalienable rights of all individuals.

In a flurry of executive orders, President Donald Trump attempted to invalidate the identities of transgender and non-binary individuals, asserting that the government will only recognize two fixed sexes, and implementing sweeping policy changes that demean and endanger these communities. Furthermore, the administration terminated Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs in the federal government.

To the diverse residents of Mason County, the Mason County Democratic Party reaffirms our unwavering commitment to fostering full participation of all individuals in the political, economic, and social fabric of our county. We recognize the invaluable contributions of underrepresented groups and pledge to amplify their voices.

To our transgender and non-binary community members, we unequivocally affirm no executive order can dictate your identity. We stand in solidarity, advocating for your right to live openly and authentically, free from discrimination. As the relentless march of progress toward justice continues, we remain resolute in our pursuit of the rights of all Mason County residents.
